Cate Maddy revisits the still life tradition and looks at contemporary ways of negotiating the relationships between stillness and movement with her artworks. She is particularity interested in using colour to heighten emotion in a piece and suggest sumptuous luxury, referring to the gluttony and excesses of modern times, which references the Vanitas tradition. Although her process has changed over the years, colour and movement have remained her primary interest, as she aims to create an energy and flow in her composition and brushwork. Learn layering techniques Experiment with acrylic paints Expand or develop new skills Be inspired!
Still life oil painting Each student will work on the same still life subject which will be determined by Chelsea closer to the date. Materials List for this class will be provided soon (please note materials are not covered in the tuition fee)
